About Demarest, NJ Real Estate Market

One of the smallest boroughs in the Bergen County, Demarest is a part of the New York City Metropolitan Area located in the north-eastern corner of New Jersey state. With a population of around 5,000 people, Demarest is a small town formed by an act of New Jersey Legislature in 1903 from the portions of two townships, Harrington and Pallisades.

Demarest is named after one of the most prominent families of the town, the Demarest family. One of the family members, Ralph S. Demarest, served as the director of the Northern Railroad of New Jersey. He has represented the area in the New Jersey General Assembly and New Jersey Senate during the 19th century. Demarest is spread over an area of 2.08 square miles and shares its borders with other municipalities of Bergen County, such as Alpine, Cresskill, Closter, Haworth and Dumont.

The small size and population of Demarest mean that not much development has happened in this part of the Bergen County real estate. At the centre of the town, there is a Duck Pond, a part of Tenakill Brook. Demarest has many small-sized houses across its prominent lanes and has a few places of interest, such as Demarest Nature Center, Demarest Park, Demarest Free Public Library and Demarest Farms.
