About Hillsdale, NJ Real Estate Market

Situated within the metropolitan area of New York City, Hillsdale is a small borough that is a part of Bergen County in New Jersey state. The borough of Hillsdale spans over an area of 2.94 square miles, with around 10,500 people living in it.

Till the mid-19th century, Hillsdale was not as densely populated as you see it today. A team of land speculators led by David P. Patterson created various subdivisions, which led to the foundation of real estate in the borough. Thanks to the establishment of Hackensack and the New York Railroad, the development of Hillsdale picked up some pace.

In 1898, Hillsdale was eventually formed by the portions of Washington Township. In 1923, under the act of the New Jersey Legislature, Hillsdale was established as a borough based on the results of a referendum. The name of the borough seeks inspiration from its location, which means ‘dale among the hills.

Surrounded by other boroughs like Park Ridge, Saddle River, Ho-Ho-Kus, River Vale, Westwood, Washington Township and Woodcliff Lake, Hillsdale also has a small portion of Woodcliff Lake Reservoir. There are a few small houses for sale in this New Jersey borough which are fit as secondary or retirement homes.
