About Little Ferry, NJ Real Estate Market

Located on the banks of the Hudson River, Little Ferry is a small borough that is a part of Bergen County in New Jersey state. With a population of over 10,500 people, Little Ferry has a total area of 1.67 square miles. Sharing its borders with other boroughs of Bergen County, such as Ridgefield Park, Hackensack, Moonachie, Teterboro and Southern Hackensack, Little Ferry is located near the confluence of the Hackensack River and Overpeck Creek in the New Jersey Meadowlands.

Based on the results of a referendum, the foundation of Little Ferry as a borough was laid in 1894 under an act of the New Jersey Legislature. It is one of those 26 boroughs formed during the Boroughitis phenomenon in 1894. For the formation of Little Ferry as a borough, portions of Lodi Township and New Barbadoes Township joined together.

In the colonial era, the town of Little Ferry served as a site of a ferry operating between the towns of Bergen and Hackensack across the Hudson River. This process kept on continuing till 1826 when the construction of the bridge happened on the Bergen Turnpike. Most of the residents of Little Ferry rent their New Jersey homes, which offer an urban-suburban mix feel.
