About Leonia, NJ Real Estate Market

Located near the western approach to the George Washington Bridge, Leonia is a suburb in New York City and a small borough in Bergen Country within New Jersey state. The borough of Leonia has a population of around 9,500 people and covers an area of 1.63 square miles, making it one of the smallest mid-sized and mid-populated boroughs in Bergen County.

Leonia is one of the 26 boroughs formed during the Boroughitis phenomenon in 1894. During this year, a referendum was passed, which allowed the formation of Leonia from the portions of Ridgefield Township. Leonia is currently bordered by other counties of Bergen, like Fort Lee, Ridgefield Park, Englewood, Teaneck and Palisades Park. Every third Sunday in May is celebrated as Leonia Day in the borough.

Leonia is often recognized as one of the best places to live in New Jersey, with several small-sized and large-sized homes on Grand Avenue Road in the town included in the Bergen County real estate market. Formerly known as English Neighborhood Road, the Grand Revenue Road connected the Paulus Hook in Bergen to the English Neighborhood.

Leonia holds a significant place in history for it served as the training ground for American Civil War soldiers, the memories of which are preserved in the historical places in the town, such as Civil War Drill Hall and Armory, Vreeland House and the Cole-Allaire House.
