About Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ Real Estate Market

Ho-Ho-Kus has one of the most unique-sounding names among all the boroughs included in Bergen County in the state of New Jersey. Having a population of around 4,500 people, Ho-Ho-Kus is spread over 1.75 square miles and shares its borders with other boroughs like Waldwick, Washington Township, Saddle River, Hillsdale and Ridgewood.

The journey of Ho-Ho-Kus as a borough began in 1908 through an act of the New Jersey Legislature, after accounting for the portions of Orvil Township. It was destined to be a borough of Orvil, though.

While there are many stories behind how the borough was named Ho-Ho-Kus, the most popular one is that it found its origin in the Delaware Indian term “Mah-Ho-Ho-Kus”, which means “the red cedar”. The borough ranks consistently as one of the wealthiest communities in New Jersey, with an average median household income of more than $165,000.

Apart from the regular small-sized homes for sale in this NJ town, you can also find a few large mansions and holiday homes. It is one of those boroughs which have high-quality educational institutions, a low crime rate and higher standards of living due to its proximity to New York City. There are many historical landmarks in the borough, such as The Hermitage and Ho-Ho-Kus Inn.
